The village is also renowned for its beautiful church named after St Enda which was built in 1904 in the Romanesque style , It has wonderful stained glass windows and due to its location is very popular for weddings.
Spiddal has been a popular holiday destination for many years due to its location and proximity to the Connemara region. We have safe sandy beaches in the area suitable for swimming, and there are small coves with crystal clear water dotted all along this rocky coastline. |

| The most striking aspect of the local landscape, are the stone walls which are relics of a time when the small farmers worked hard to clear the tiny fields so they could sow their crops Most of these walls were built after the Great Famine of 1840.
The peatlands are a major part of the Irish landscape and a unique example of an unspoilt environment. Peat is still an important source of fuel for many homes and Bog wood is used to create some beautiful sculptures. It is well worth venturing off the coast road to view the peat bogs. There are some nice walks in these areas with some wonderful views over Galway Bay. |
